Stockholm, theft and the British Consul.

Took a trip to Stockholm couple of weeks ago on a whim, with a few German friends. 5 Hour drive (thanks to Hanno and Lars) and two nights in Crafoords Place Hostel. We arrived, parked up, grabbed the room key and went straight out. Wandered around the city, very very beautiful. Made a video, had a few soundy issues, will fix if got time as it’s time consuming..

The only issue, was that when returning to our car, the two side doors were unlocked. My bag and Hanno’s bag had been stolen, with our clothes, ipods, toilettries (which we discovered can add up to a reasonable amount of money). Those things are easily replaceable with lots of money, unlike my passport which I now do not have in my possession because that was also in the bag.

Do not lose your passport! Our embassy are terrible. I make particular reference to the UK embassy in Germany for having no people skills and managing to patronise you for any misunderstanding. More on that soon.

Random Boat

Sinking boat closer

I recently passed this with a friend and was amused by its general state and ironic signs in the window. The sign on the front reads “Possible leak, but better equipped than competitors. Owner wants to save world. Call Gordon 020xxxxxxxxxxx”. A random Scottish passer by convinced me to phone this number to which they answered with “Good afternoon houses of parliament”. I hung up. Then it dawned on me. “Call Gordon”. It’s good to see people still have good senses of humour. Also unknown to me, this boat was previously in the Kingston local newspaper (whatever that may be).

Clicking the picture will take you to my photostream where there are a couple more of the boat and signs.

WWF Earth Hour 2009

I went to London yesterday to watch the lights of parliament be switched off in aid of Earth Hour. It was interesting to see my home city taking part in such a controversial topic, avoided by many. Frankly, anyone who doesn’t believe in global warming has their eyes stapled shut. Those that do still don’t make the effort.

Me and the guy I was with were interviewed about global warming by an environmental TV channel, which I will post when that becomes available. Surprisingly the turnout was not significant for the event. The event was not meant to be major, but I still expected more and the camera crews were surprised we had come specifically to see the event. Another that showed was David Nussbaum, the CEO of WWF-UK.
